Canadian Rapper Madchild Lost $3 Million to Drug Addiction, and Claims He Is Recovered

If you want to put losing money because of an addiction into perspective, consider losing the $3 million dollars to a substance use disorder Canadian rapper, Madchild, did. And you’re complaining about the cost of a pack of cigarettes. (Well, they are pretty expensive.) According to Hip Hop DX, Madchild is on the straight and narrow after his costly opiate addiction. The rapper is working towards rebuilding his empire and recovering from the monetary damage his addiction inflicted upon his hard work. Many who allow their substance use disorders to spiral out of control become bankrupt, and in the worst case scenarios, homeless, because chasing the high becomes more important than other essential necessities. In severe cases, chronic addiction trumps eating.

Hip Hop DX quotes Madchild admitting he is still battling staying completely sober, but he has successfully abstained from opiates,

“My life is a blessing, so I’m not complaining . . . You can’t say that I’ve been exactly sober. But you can say that I’ve been off opioids for four years.”

In the spirit of helping himself, and his fellow bandmates stay away from the spiraling descent into addiction, Madchild has made a new tour bus rules:

✓ Rule #1: Drinking is permitted only twice a month!

✓ Rule # 2: If you can’t follow rule number one, you are to stay sober entirely!

We think it’s a pretty sound plan.

Madchild is quoted by Hip Hop DX,

“You don’t need to get hammered every night, sloppy, o have a good time. And it’s just [going to] get better. . . where we show up on time and we’re there to handle our business.”

One of the most critical aspects of recovery is setting goals for yourself that are attainable- and Madchild is showing the entire Canadian rap community how to do that by setting a fine example. Limiting the shenanigans on his tour bus will help him from not overindulging, and may save a couple of his band mates from falling down the same path he once did.

What are some of the goals you set for yourself?
