Victoria Siegel: David Siegel’s Daughter Found Dead, Possibly from an Overdose

If you thought the overdose deaths rates in Florida were far too exaggerated, think again. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in 2010 alone there were 38,329 fatal overdoses. Their findings speculate 100 people die everyday from fatal overdoses- and the rate isn’t abating anytime soon. Caught in the mental crossfire of addiction, 18 year old Victoria Siegel was found dead in Orlando at the famed Isleworth mansion, according to Click Orlando. As of right now the cause of death has not been publically released, but Victoria suffered from an addiction to prescription medications.

It’s common for those with an addiction to prescription medications to progress to heroin, but no mention of the illicit drug has been mentioned in relation to Victoria Siegel. But on a larger scale, those who succumb to prescription drug addiction often make the leap to heroin when their prescriptions run dry, or they become financially taxed, as heroin is a cheaper alternative to prescription opiate medications (commonly referred to as narcotics). Those struggling with opiate prescription medications and heroin addiction should enroll in a specialized heroin rehabilitation program immediately- and that’s just what Victoria did.

According to Click Orlando Victoria willingly checked into residential drug rehabilitation to fight her addiction head-on, but it seems her efforts were not enough to liberate her from prescription medications. Those very same medications were meant to help her control seizures, but may have become the substance to rob Victoria of her life.

Victoria Siegel: David Siegel’s Daughter Found Dead, Possibly from an Overdose Click Orlando quotes Michael Marder, the Sigel’s family attorney and spokesman, “The Siegel family is devastated and heartbroken by the loss of their beloved Victoria. . .Victoria has a history of seizures and was prescribed medication for this condition. Unfortunately, she became dependent and struggled with this condition. She voluntarily underwent rehabilitation and was working hard to address the problem,”

Extending our deepest condolences to the Siegel family, and the other victims of fatal overdoses who are not receiving coverage- but who are deserving of such- we urge those struggling with substance use disorders to get the help they need. Beyond this, those currently attending rehabilitation programs, it’s imperative to continue your addiction treatment even after inpatient rehabilitation to establish the coping mechanisms ]essential to preventing relapse and subsequent overdose.

There are no measure of words to allay the grief of a loved one’s passing, but we can do our part by helping to eliminate the stigma of addiction by becoming aware of the nature of the disease. Simple compassion, openness, and understanding can go a long way in helping those fraught by addiction recover. Although commonly misconstrued as a moral failing, addiction is typically the desperate plea for help, and a measured attempt to numb pain and cope with trauma and stress.
