It’s here it’s here, it’s finally here! The supreme court has just legalized same sex marriage across the entire united states. The ruling solidifies the interpretation of the United State’s constitution to protect the rights of same sex marriage across the entire United States. Whatever your stance on same sex marriage is, two decades of national protests and demonstrations have lead us here.
Now is a time for forgiveness, peace, and celebration. The vote was close, and won by a 5-4 ruling. States who have bans on same sex marriage will need to rescind their state laws- and yes, that means you too Chris Christie- no more vetoing for you.
The Washington Post quotes Justice Anthony Kennedy,
“The court now holds that same–sex couple may exercise the fundamental right to marry. No longer may this liberty be denied to them,”
But that’s not all. Lethal injection in the state of Oklahoma is also on the Supreme Court’s table. The reason? Muddled executions. Protesters are blaming the drug used to sedate inmates as the cause: midazolam.
Midazolam is used to put inmates in a coma-like state to spare them the agony of death. Inmates argue the drug does not in fact put users in a state of comatose before their inevitable sentences are carried out. The drug has been responsible for several blunders during execution, according to the Star Tribune.
That’s a lot to take in all at once.
